Iron Mountain Digital presents new version of Connected Backup for Server
~ digital information backup specialist broadens its Storage-as-Service portfolio ~
October 17, 2007 – Iron Mountain Digital, the technology unit of Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the global leader in information protection and storage services, has launched the latest edition of its Connected Backup for Server solution.
Connected Backup for Server enables the automated backup and recovery of data stored on Microsoft Windows 2000/ 2003 file and print servers. The server product is available either as a licensed product or a subscription service. In its subscription form, Iron Mountain Digital assumes responsibility for the entire data backup process.
With the latest version, it is possible to back up and restore Windows server operating systems whilst also incorporating intelligent data compression and duplication control mechanisms. This reduces data volumes on the backup servers to less than 20 percent of the original size. The Connected Backup for Server solution enables enterprises to schedule and automate their server backups precisely, ensuring the permanent availability of mission critical server data.
For companies using the SaaS offering, data is encrypted before being transferred to Iron Mountain Digital’s or one of the hosting partner’s high security data centres. In doing so, Iron Mountain Digital reduces costly bandwidth, allowing branch offices, foreign subsidiaries and home workplaces to be integrated efficiently into the backup process. The customer does not need to make any additional investments in backup hardware or software.
As a leading provider of PC backup solutions, Iron Mountain’s Connected Backup for PC product protects more than 2.5 million users as a proven and trusted method for automatic PC data protection and recovery. As an extension of the Connected Backup for PC solution, Connected Backup for Server will now enable customers to manage their PCs and Windows Servers from one console.
The Connected Backup for Server solution is ideal for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and users of Connected Backup for PC whose desktops run Windows Server operating systems. For enterprises with multi-server environments or many subsidiaries that place greater demands on continual backup and proactive monitoring, Iron Mountain Digital’s LiveVault solution offers an alternative server backup solution. This software allows fulfilment of rigorous Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs). It also provides additional benefits including an on-site appliance for rapid restore, TurboRestore, for even faster server data recovery, as well as other features such as clustering and 64-bit support.
“For more than 10 years, Iron Mountain Digital has been fulfilling the needs of companies wanting to back up digital information on PCs. We pioneered the backup technologies needed for protecting desktop PCs and laptops,” said Nick Cater, head of Northern Europe, Iron Mountain Digital. “Our customers not only benefit from the automated backup and recovery of their server data, but also have peace of mind that their information is being protected by one of the industry’s most prized and reliable storage and service partners.”
