International flooring specialist secures distant data
~Amtico implements laptop back-up solution across the UK and Europe~

January 8, 2009 – Flooring specialist Amtico International is working with Storage-as-a-Service provider Iron Mountain Digital to secure its business critical data.

The Connected®Backup for PC solution will ensure the automated and secure offsite backup of all laptop data. This will replace the previous data retrieval software used by Amtico, which left the company unconvinced that the data held on its remote users laptops was secure and recoverable.

With many sales representatives and directors reliant on the information stored on their laptops, Amtico needed to ensure that all documents were securely backed up and could be retrieved if a laptop failed. Unfortunately, the previous solution lacked the capability to read foreign languages and so the IT team couldn’t run global reports to trace whether all back-ups had been completed.

“Protecting data is a critical process for businesses and they need to have full confidence that information can be retrieved should a laptop fail,” said Richard Ellis, sales manager UK and Ireland, Iron Mountain Digital. “Ensuring that back-ups are automated and then reported clearly to an organisation ensures compliance. This removes the element of concern that data is not secure and business critical information is at risk.”

Connected Backup for PC solution was initially suggested to Amtico by an employee who had used the software in a previous role. The company first made contact with Iron Mountain Digital at the end of June 2008 and following a pilot of the solution the implementation was completed in October throughout the UK and Germany.

A number of other European countries are starting to roll out the solution and plans are in place to extend it to the US in the future. “Overall the solution has delivered on its promises and has been a cost effective solution to our concerns,” said Scott Kelly, IT Helpdesk Engineer at Amtico International. “We now have greater confidence in deploying laptops, providing much needed assurance that business critical data is secure.”
